ABOUT THE BOOK: KALMAN & LEOPOLD
At the infamous Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp, two young boys –Kalman and Leopold – meet in 1944 as unwitting subjects of notorious Nazi doctor Josef Mengele’s sadistic twin experiments. Pulled from their barrack, they are forced to become servants to the SS guards within Mengele’s “hospital” camp, bearing witness to scenes of unspeakable cruelty. Within this nightmarish hell, Leopold becomes Kalman’s guide and protector as the two become friends. In January 1945, Russian troops liberated the death camp and the boys part ways.
